Sporting Life Preview

Plenty of these are open to improvement in a wide-open contest. The returning Homage makes more appeal than Caramack as that pair make their handicap debuts while Beverley winner Mitchell looks capable of better this year. Gravitational finished runner-up on his reappearance at Leicester but COUNTRYMAN's recent fifth in a stronger race at Ascot looks superior form and Hughie Morrison's charge gets the nod dropping back a furlong. Lionheart disappointed when stepped up to 1m1f at Epsom and may do better back over today's trip while Bondesire is another to consider having gone close at Pontefract on her return to action.

Oddschecker Verdict

A race to tread carefully in with a handicap range of only 10lb. Caramack must be of interest with Willy Twiston-Davies claiming a valuable 5lb but he may not have the class to deal with HOMAGE, a smooth polytrack winner last October for Jeremy Noseda. However, it is the latter's previous performances, when placed in strong maiden company at Newbury and Newmarket, that rates the most persuasive form on view. The step up to a seventh furlong should also suit the Acclamation colt. Lionheart could be much better suited to this track than the undulations of Epsom and also commands considerable interest.

Prediction: 1st Homage, 2nd Caramack, 3rd Lionheart
