Southwell 16:10 Racecard and Betting Preview

View
The supremely well-bred Colour Guard made up for lost time when running out an impressive winner of a 7f maiden at this track recently and can make the most of a lenient mark now handicapping over this longer trip. Follow The Flag looks a danger, while Aquarian Spirit would be interesting if taking to fibresand.

2: FOLLOW THE FLAG (IRE)
3: AQUARIAN SPIRIT

Sporting Life Preview
Colour Guard is likely to start a short price to follow up his recent 7f maiden win at this track. He looks on a high enough mark to begin his handicap career, however, and a chance is taken that MAWAAKEF will handle the surface. The Irish import is now 8lb lower than when second at Killarney last July and could be much better than we've seen so far in handicaps as he was good enough to finish runner-up in the Group 2 Beresford Stakes as a two-year-old. Greyfriarschorista won by 10 lengths here in December but is 13lb higher today and Dubaianswer makes more appeal as he had On The Cusp behind when scoring over C&D last month. The consistent Follow The Flag also has place claims again.

Useful at 2 yrs in Ireland. Bit more encouragement second time up for this yard at Lingfield (1?m) in November, but well held back there in January and bit to prove now trying a new surface.

Took advantage of a favourable mark when scoring twice on the AW in December (including C&D), but found life tougher off revised mark last twice.

Paid his way in handicaps over the years. Largely creditable efforts since last win over 11f here in December, and place claims again, but ideally suited by a bit further than this nowadays.

Marked improvement when narrowly fending off an in-form rival over this C&D in January. Not discredited after a short break here last time, but may find a few too good once more.

Losing run stacking up. Handles this surface and back to near best when touched off at Kempton (7f) last week, but something of a 7f specialist and remains vulnerable over this trip. NON RUNNER.

Failed to make the track for Godolphin, but bred to be smart and ran out a ready winner of a 7f maiden on debut here recently. More to come upped in trip and one to take seriously on handicap bow.
