Warwick 15:50 Racecard and Betting Preview

Sporting Life Preview

Taquin Du Seuil is a class act on his day and has a decent overall strike rate but he'll possibly need his first run of the season. Irish import Band Of Blood is best watched on his first start since June while the Venetia Williams' pair Niceonefrankie and Marcilhac were both pulled up in their only run so far this term. Galway Jack should go well, however, after a couple of seconds at Kempton though COGRY (NAP) is preferred. He's won both previous starts here and, though probably better over further, can make the most of his stamina on the prevailing ground with Jamie Bargary's claim a plus.

Oddschecker Verdict

A real conundrum with Taquin De Seuil and Niceonefrankie looking for form after absences but faced with tough tasks at the weights. The latter is a Venetia Williams rarity - a stable contender who is yet to encounter heavy ground (in 40 starts) - whilst the former would be more than good enough if back to his best after nearly a year off. The market may best guide to his chances. Cogry and Band Of Blood (first run for Dr Newland) are out-and-out stayers and should find this far too short, although both handle the ground, whereas the consistent Galway Jack has posted his best under better conditions. Therefore a hopeful nod is given to the ex-French MARCILHAC, well supported on his comeback run and with promising heavy ground chase form in France.

Prediction: 1st Marcilhac, 2nd Cogry, 3rd Taquin Du Seuil

14-1 (11-10) Held up towards rear, not fluent 4th, mistake 10th, headway when mistake 4 out, no impression after, mistake 3 out, well beaten after, 9th of 14, 37 1/2l behind Uxizandre (11-10) at Cheltenham 2m 5f (1) gd in Mar.

Taquin Du Seuil (FR) 338 (1574f)
b g Voix Du Nord-Sweet Laly (Marchand De Sable)

11 - 12

Jonjo ONeill

L P Aspell

Winner of three hurdle races and four chases from 2m to 2m 5f on ground varying from good to heavy. Well beaten at 14-1 behind Uxizandre when 9th of 14 on his latest outing in a Grade 1 Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham over 2m 5f (good) in March last year. Market should guide as to his chances on this return to action after 11 months off. Very talented chaser at his best and fascinating to see how he goes here.

8-1 (11-4) Tracked leaders, lost place 8th, hampered 10th, soon well behind, pulled up before 5 out, at Newbury 2m 4f hcp (2) sft in Nov.

Niceonefrankie (GB) 78
b g Ishiguru-Chesnut Ripple (Cosmonaut)

11 - 5

Miss V Williams

Charlie Deutsch (5)

Has won a hurdle race and seven chases from 2m to 2m 5f on ground varying from good to soft. Pulled up 5 out when 8-1 at Newbury over 2m 4f (soft) in a chase won by Little Jon in November last year on his latest outing. Clearly had his problems with just one start since January 2015 and, unlike many stable companions, has never run on heavy ground in 40 starts.

8-1fav (10-11) Tracked leaders, ridden and lost place after 12th, well beaten 17th, pulled up before 5 out, at Chepstow 3m 5f hcp (1) hvy in Jan.

Cogry (GB) 35
b g Kings Theatre-Wyldello (Supreme Leader)

10 - 11 v 1

N A Twiston-Davies

Jamie Bargary (5)

Winner of two hurdle races, a NH flat race and two chases from 2m to 3m 2f on ground varying from good to soft to heavy. Pulled up 4 out when 8-1fav in the Group 3 Coral Welsh Grand National at Chepstow over 3m 5f (heavy) in a Grade 3 chase won by Mountainous last month on his latest outing. Connections look desperate to get a run into him as this looks far too short for him. Handles heavy and easily forgiven latest Welsh National effort run in appalling ground.

15-2 (11-4) Led, driven 3 out, ridden and headed between last 2, kept on, held flat, 2nd of 9, 2l behind Roc D'apsis (11-1) at Kempton 2m 4f hcp (2) sft in Jan.

Galway Jack (IRE) 19
b g Witness Box-Cooldalus (Mandalus)

10 - 10

Mrs Caroline Bailey

A Thornton

Has won five chases and five point-to-points from 2m 4f to 3m on ground varying from good to heavy. Beaten 2l by Roc D'apsis when second of 9 at 15-2 on his latest outing in a chase at Kempton over 2m 4f (soft) last month. Solid and reliable handicapper who nearly always runs his race. Seems sure to be competitive although does nearly all his running on much better ground than that which is forecast.

11-1 (10-13) Chased leader, 2nd before 7th, improved to lead after 8th, not fluent 9th, headed after 4 out and ridden after next, no extra from 2 out, 7th of 10, dist behind Elegant Statesman (9-10) at Down Royal 2m 4f hcp gd in Jun.

Band Of Blood (IRE) 239
b g Kings Theatre-Cherry Falls (Ali-royal)

10 - 9 t

Dr R D P Newland

W Kennedy

Winner of three hurdle races, a NH flat race, a chase and a point-to-point from 2m to 2m 4f on ground varying from good - yielding to heavy. Well beaten at 11-1 when seventh of 10 on his latest outing in a chase at Down Royal over 2m 4f (good) in June last year. Having his first run for Dr Richard Newland today so needs to be taken very seriously as the yard are renowned for their ability to further improve new charges to the operation. Stays much further.

6-1 (11-12) Chased leaders until lost place before 11th, soon behind, 9th of 10, 32 1/2l behind Mon Successeur (11-6) at Ascot 2m 3f hcp (3) gs in Dec.

Marcilhac (FR) 56
b g Smadoun-One Way (Exit To Nowhere)

10 - 6

Miss V Williams

L Treadwell

Successful in a hurdle race and a chase at 2m 1f and 2m 5f on heavy ground, but last win was over two years ago. Well beaten at 6-1 behind Mon Successeur when 9th of 10 on his latest outing in a chase at Ascot over 2m 3f (good to soft) in December last year. Showed little on his comeback run in a decent Ascot handicap in December on chasing debut for this yard. Handled ground well in France and of interest.

16-1 (10-10) Behind, outpaced 4 out, never on terms, 8th of 11, 35 3/4l behind Sound Investment (11-12) at Newbury 2m 4f hcp (1) gs in Feb.

Headlys Bridge (IRE) 350 (2178f)
b g Tillerman-Brockton Flame (Emarati)

10 - 4

Simon Earle

David Noonan (5)

He has won a hurdle race and three chases from 2m to 2m 3f on good to soft and heavy ground. Well beaten at 16-1 behind Sound Investment when eighth of 11 on his latest outing in a Grade 3 chase in the Group 3 Greatwood Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Newbury over 2m 4f (good to soft) in February last year. Decent performer back in 2014 but just the one run since(well beaten) and hard to construct a persuasive case.
