Is Sean Dyche the preferred candidate for Villa job?

A popular bet today has seen Sean Dyche come right in to the frame to be the next Villa manager. Dyche, who has managed Burnley for four years this month, was 16/1 yesterday but is now as short as 11/8 with Betfair.

It seems Tony Xia is still looking at other options to Steve Bruce, who still remains the favourite at 8/13, after it appeared he was unable to lure David Wagner away from Huddersfield.

Despite rumours surfacing about who Bruce will or will not bring to Villa Park as part of his coaching team the movement in the market suggests a decision on the new manager is yet to be made.

Before Betfair slashed the odds, the job was believed to be a two horse race between Bruce and current caretaker manager Steve Clarke.

Clarke, best price of 8/1 with SkyBet, was Roberto Di Matteo's assistant at Villa and has experience of coaching in the Premier League and the Championship.

The Villa manager market is an interesting one where previous rumours have seen the odds on Wagner and Dean Smith significantly shorten to second favourite before drifting again.

Time will tell if it is the same with Dyche or whether the slashed odds mean he is actually close to landing the role. Unsurprisingly the rumours have also meant Sean Dyche is now favourite as the next manager to leave the Premier League.
