Is Mark Lawrenson as clueless as everyone thinks?

Lawro often gets scrutinised on social media for his Premier League predictions, so we crunched the numbers to see just how bad (or good) he actually is.

Is Mark Lawrenson as clueless as everyone thinks?

Mark Lawrenson, Liverpool legend and BBC pundit, is also well known in the game for his weekly predictions. Each gameweek, Lawro takes on a different celebrity in predicting the outcome of all Premier League fixtures, but here at Oddschecker we have crunched the numbers to find out if he is actually as clueless as people may think.

We have collated all of Lawro’s predictions this season and found that if you had stuck £10 on each result at best price on Oddschecker, you would currently be sitting on a very tidy £183.50 profit.

Shocked? So are we!

In Gameweek 1, Lawro didn’t get off to the best of starts by only predicting 4 correct results leaving him £18.40 down. However Gameweeks 2 and 3 proved more fruitful as he correctly guessed the outcome of 14 out of the 20 games returning a £99.10 profit. Not bad eh?

Since then he has had five profitable weeks with only three where you would have lost money. Backing the draw in games has been the most lucrative outcome for Lawro. He has tipped the draw 29 times in the first 11 weeks with only 10 of them coming in. However, due to the price of backing a draw in games usually being much longer than a Home or Away win, this would have returned you £89 profit.

His biggest winner came when he tipped up Everton to claim a draw away at Man City. The draw was best priced 15/4 at Bet365 and Ronald Koeman’s men duly obliged and pocketed Lawro a £37.50 profit.

This is all well and good, but if you weren’t as savvy as some of our Oddschecker users, and didn’t take the best odds for each selection, you may only have been £97.90 up. Yes that’s right, you could have earnt an extra 87% on your money by taking best price each time!

Lawro takes on 80s pop legend Rick Astley in this week's predictions. Fancy backing Lawrenson's predictions? The accumulator is an enormous best-price 1,679/1.
