Seaside smasher: So Mi Dar v Arabian Queen

Yarmouth racegoers are being served up a treat on Wednesday as 2015 Juddmonte International winner Arabian Queen goes clashes with unbeaten three-year-old So Mi Dar in a thrilling Listed fillies’ contest at 3.25.

Both fillies are returning from absences after sustaining injuries earlier in the season but bookmakers are heavily favouring the John Gosden-trained filly, So Mi Dar (best odds 11-10), who hasn’t been seen since an impressive four-length winner of the Musidora Stakes at York in May. That took her record to 3-3 and she looked a major threat to Minding in the Oaks until being forced out of the fillies’ Classic after pulling up lame during work in the build up.

The Andrew Lloyd-Webber owned filly faces a tough task under an 8lb penalty for her York win but she looked a potential superstar earlier in the season could easily outclass this opposition and book her ticket for an autumn Group One contest.

She has most to fear from Arabian Queen (best odds 7-2), ridden by title-chasing Silvestre De Sousa, who is capable of top class form on her day - as she showed when knuckling down to beat the top class Derby and Arc hero Golden Horn, no less, and much depends on what kind of shape she comes here in after being off since a disappointing run in the Coronation Cup at Epsom. She is rated 3lb higher than So Mi Dar so is theoretically well-in today, but that rival has the potential to improve past her.

Either way, this is a seriously high-class match-up for a Wednesday afternoon at Yarmouth and it could have a major bearing on some of the top fillies’ races this autumn.
