Woodbine Mile: Mutakayyef to take on the mighty Tepin

Mutakayyef will bid to bring the Woodbine Mile back to Britain for a second successive year.

Woodbine Mile: Mutakayyef to take on the mighty Tepin

Mutakayyef is no bigger than 7-2 to win Saturday’s Can$1m Woodbine Mile but the William Haggas-trained 5yo must see off the mighty Tepin if he is to land his first Group One prize and follow in the footsteps of Mondialiste, who won the race for David O'Meara 12 months ago.

Mutakayyef posted a career-best effort when third behind Postponed in the Juddmonte International at York last month, and could well have finished second had he not found himself short of room in the closing stages, so he represents a major threat to star mare Tepin.

Tepin, who is having her first start since winning the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, is no bigger than 8-15 to make it eight wins on the bounce.

The European challenge is completed by Arod (best odds 10-1) and French raider Mr Owen (best odds 16-1), who was beaten around five lengths by Mondialiste in last year’s running of this 1m contest.
