Former England captains have had their say on the decision ahead of the tour.
England one-day captain Eoin Morgan, and opening batsman Alex Hales, have made themselves unavailable for selection for the upcoming Bangladesh tour amid security concerns. Michael Vaughan believes that Morgan’s decision “is one that he will live to regret”, whilst Nasser Hussain said that the captain “should be with his team”.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler will captain the ODI team in Morgan’s absence, with the three-match series getting underway on 7th October. England are 2/5 to win the series, with Bangladesh best-price 2/1. The tourists are in fine one-day form the 3-0 whitewash looks good value at 7/4.
The two-match Test series succeeds the one-dayers, with the First Test in Chittagong starting on 20th October. Both the Test and ODI squads will be announced on Friday but director of cricket Andrew Strauss has said that the ECB are not expecting any more withdrawals following “open and honest” discussions with the players.
