It was an interesting midweek around Europe – Arsenal, Chelsea and United all rotated their squads and still managed to get wins, Liverpool struggled to overcome Carlisle, and Rangers’ 100% record ended with a home defeat to Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone. Outside of the UK, Bayern were behind to Wolfsburg before bringing on Lewandowski who promptly slotted in 5 goals in 9 minutes, and Celta Vigo romped to a shock 4-1 victory over a near full-strength Barca side, with Messi, Neymar, Suarez and Iniesta all starting. In terms of the tips, I managed to stay away from some of the shocks, with each of my Wednesday tips winning, after one of the high odds Tuesday tips won too.

This weekend, Swansea travel to Southampton on Saturday, with 9 places separating the two teams, despite Southampton having only 3 less points at this stage of the season. Southampton have managed just one home win in the league so far, slipping to defeats to Everton and Manchester United; however, they only failed to score in one of those games, and Swansea have only failed to score in one away game. Whilst both teams are fairly evenly matched here, I think both teams will believe they can win (Southampton with the home advantage, Swansea with the higher league standing) and we should see an open game – for that reason, I’m backing Both Teams To Score at odds of 1.91 with Totesport.

Over in La Liga, a tasty clash sees Atletico Madrid, the only team that have given Real Madrid and Barcelona a challenge in the last 10 seasons, face off against Villarreal. Villarreal moved a point ahead of their opponents going into this tie with an own goal giving them a win against Malaga in midweek, and also have a formidable home record, winning 12 home matches in the league last season. However, one of the reasons they finished 6th was the fact that they tended to come unstuck against some of the bigger teams in the league, even at home, with their home defeats coming against Atletico Madrid, Espanyol, Sevilla, Valencia, Real Madrid and Barcelona – each of the teams that finished above them in the league defeated them at their own stadium. For that reason, I fancy Atletico to once again get a result here, and I am taking them to draw or win (double chance) at odds of 1.42 with Bet365.

Inter Milan face Fiorentina at home in the Serie A, looking to keep up their magnificent league record under boss Roberto Mancini, who has this season guided them to 5 consecutive victories, including a victory in the Milan derby, conceding just 1 goal in these 5 games. Despite losing Kovacic to Real Madrid, they strengthened well in the summer, and the fact that the likes of Jovetic and Palacio were on the bench for their victory against Verona in their last game is an indication of the quality of their squad. I’m backing them to win against Fiorentina this weekend with a safety net – grab Inter at Draw No Bet (which means you’ll get a refund of your stake if the match ends in a draw) at odds of 1.40 with Betway.

Finally, my Scottish pick of the weekend at a high price of 2.01 with MarathonBet is Raith to beat Dumbarton. This match is in the Scottish Championship and the price of over evens surprises me. Raith who appointed a new manager in the summer have almost a whole new squad compared to last season and this is apparent with their great start to the season. Raith have won 4 and lost 3 in the 7 matches played so far, the 3 defeats coming against the top 3 sides in the league. Dumbarton on the other hand had a great season for their standards last year but then lost their manager to St Mirren. Again, the change in personnel is evident, as so far this season they’ve only won 2 matches – their first 2. Since then they’ve only managed 1 point from their last 5 matches.

Put these four selections in an ACCA and it pays 7.32!
