Another day another winner. Gerard Pique’s late strike ensured we continue to squeeze out profit on a daily basis and that our love for Spanish defenders is enhanced further. It was a shame that Spain didn’t manage to find the breakthrough in the first half to land the other selection on the day but in truth we’ll take what we can in our quest to reach £1000.

Today looks like a tough one with Portugal rightly a short price to overcome Iceland, and Austria favourites to beat Hungary. On paper it should be relatively straightforward for both but Iceland and Hungary could prove tough nuts to crack.

‘You don’t get rich backing 8-15 shots’. Well you do actually, but only if you have a lot more in your pot than the £51.50 we do. We need to be a bit smarter with our pennies to make sure we can maximise our profit. There is a suspicion that Austria might be a tad overrated (has that sentence ever been written about any Swiss sports team ever?) and that at 11-4 the draw looks an appealing bet against a Hungary side that will surely set themselves out not to concede. But, we didn’t get to the position we are in backing fancy prices and over complicating things now did we?

So with that in mind it’s to our trusty win to nil market we go where a pleasant surprise awaits us. Portugal at 21-20.

Now Iceland were impressive in the early stages of their qualifying group, recording incredible victories at home to The Netherlands, Turkey and Czech Republic, but they tailed off towards the end of that campaign and they’ve been conceding too many goals in their warm-up matches to think they can keep Ronaldo and co at bay.

Portugal meanwhile have been quietly going about their business and have built a squad full of exciting young talent that should qualify from this group with ease, and with Ronaldo leading the line doing what Ronaldo does, they should be able to defrost the Iceland defence (we’ll get our coat).
