The Oddschecker columnist thinks Wales have a great chance of making it to the final.
Wales have got absolutely nothing to fear from Portugal tonight and I’m surprised Chris Coleman’s side are as big as 3/1 to win this game in 90 minutes.
The biggest issue for Wales isn’t the opposition, it’s the loss of Aaron Ramsey, who, as everyone knows now, has been my player of the tournament. However, whilst he is clearly going to be hard to replace, I do think Wales have enough talent in their side to make up for it in other areas, and the key area in tonight’s game could be set-pieces.
Portugal have been pretty shocking from set-pieces so far in this tournament and the loss of key defender Ricardo Cavahlo could make them even more vulnerable. I know Wales have been working on set-pieces quite a lot in the build up to this match and they definitely believe this is an area they can get some joy.
With that in mind, it might pay to be a bit adventurous in your bets and side with talisman Ashley Williams, who is such a huge threat from set-pieces, to get on the scoresheet. The Swansea centre-back is 40/1 to score first and 20/1 to find the net at any time, which looks cracking value.
In Thursday’s semi-final, I’m all over France to knock out a depleted German side. Germany are without some key players, notably striker Mario Gomez and midfield pair Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sami Khedira, for this clash and that firmly swings in the favour of Didier Deschamps’ men.
France look a perfectly fair price at 9/5 to win this in 90 minutes and I’m hoping that Giroud can find the net to keep our hopes alive of the Arsenal striker landing the Golden Boot.
All the best,
