Goals look on the cards in Saturday morning's A League clash in Wellington.
Wellington Phoenix v Melbourne City - Saturday 07:35, BT Sport Europe
Having finished up in 5th in 2014/15, Wellington dropped down to 9th last term and as a result have been busy in the transfer market, with Barbarouses and Guilherme arriving from Melbourne Victory to add some potency to their attack as they look to get back into the top half. City, meanwhile, broke the A League scoring record last term as they netted 63 times but couldn’t make it through to the Grand Final as they were well beaten by Adelaide in the semis, having finished 4th in the regular season.
Wellington had a poor second half of last season as they lost 10 of their final 13 games, having lost only six of their first 14. Indeed, they lost just one of their first six at home but were beaten in six of their next seven, though the exception was against City themselves, whom they beat 2-1. They struggled defensively as they managed just two home clean sheets, conceding an average of 1.9 goals per game.
That spells danger against the top scorers in the division and the goals look set to continue to flow for City with Tim Cahill joining their ranks. Their away record last term was W4-D3-L6 in games that tended to be full of goals, with both teams netting in 11 and eight seeing more than three goals. With both these teams vulnerable defensively and bringing in some exciting attacking players in the transfer window, we think there could be plenty of goalmouth action and so are backing Over 3.5 Goals.
