A low-scoring affair could be on the cards in Sunday's A League clash in Newcastle.
Newcastle Jets v Brisbane Roar - Sunday 07:00, BT Sport Europe
The Jets picked up an excellent point at home to champions Adelaide in their opening game and remain at the McDonald Jones Stadium to host Brisbane, who finished third last term. They were fortunate to pick up a point at home to Victory in their opener as they were dominated in the early stages and had Matt McKay sent off, but managed a late equaliser to salvage a point.
The Jets have a W4-D4-L7 home record since the start of last season and they proved that they could frustrate the top teams as they managed draws against Adelaide and Brisbane, while they were only beaten by a single goal in both their home games against the Wanderers. Indeed, they made themselves tough to beat at home all season as Perth and City were the only sides to score more than twice against them.
Brisbane were poor travellers last term as they had a W3-D4-L6 away record, while they were just W1-D2-L1 when travelling to the bottom three, with that sole victory a narrow 1-0 win over last season’s wooden spoon winners Central Coast. Three of these games saw fewer than three goals and since the Jets’ home games against the top teams tend to be low-scoring, we’re backing Under 2.5 Goals, with the 1-1 correct score, the scoreline in this fixture last season, a tempting 7.5 shot.
