Adelaide can continue their excellent run on the road when they travel to Melbourne on Friday.
Melbourne City v Adelaide United - Friday 09:50, BT Sport 2
After wins in their opening two games, City were beaten 3-2 at home by Perth to drop down to 3rd in these early stages of the season. Last season’s champions, Adelaide, have had a poor start to their title defence as they’ve picked up just one point so far to leave themselves down in 8th.
City’s defeat against Perth was only their fourth at home since the start of last season as they’ve had a W9-D2-L4 record in that time. When hosting top-half sides they’re a less impressive W3-D0-L3 in that period though, as they’ve kept just one clean sheet, with four of these games seeing more than three goals.
Adelaide could pick up only a point at the Jets on the opening day of the season but that stretches their unbeaten run on the road to 11 games as they won seven of these, with five clean sheets in the last six. With that in mind and despite Adelaide’s slow start to the season, City look on the short side at 1.8 and so we’re backing the champions on the double chance.
