Table-toppers Sydney can return to winning ways against Adelaide on Saturday morning.
Sydney FC v Adelaide United – Saturday 08:50, BT Sport 2
The head and foot of the table meet for the first time this season at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium, and the high-flying Sky Blues will be hoping to bounce back from a draw last weekend, which saw them drop their first points this season. Last season’s champions Adelaide must be wondering what they have to do to secure a win, but they will be hard pressed to come away from Sydney with anything to show for their efforts.
Despite their draw last week, Sydney retain a six-point lead at the top of the table, and should breeze past an Adelaide side in complete disarray. One area of concern for Sydney is their recent failure to keep clean sheets: they’ve had none in their last three games, largely as a result of defensive lapses from centre-backs Jurman and Wilkinson. Adelaide face the unhappy prospect of a match during which coach Guillermo Amor will be consigned to the stands and stalwart Jordan O’Doherty will be unavailable through suspension. Much will rest on the shoulders of Sergi Guardiola, who has scored three goals this campaign, but who suffered a knock that forced him off last weekend.
As well as Sydney’s lack of defensive discipline recently, it is worth noting that Adelaide have scored in every game this season, and given they’re likely to concede here they’ll have to attack even more if they’re to get that first win. With that in mind, we’re backing Sydney to win and both to score at 3.1.
