There could be a few goals on show on Saturday evening, with Dortmund coming out on top.
RB Leipzig v Borussia Dortmund – Saturday 17:30, BT Sport Europe
Leipzig’s Red Bull Arena hosts its first Bundesliga action as the newly promoted side host Borussia Dortmund, who are seeking to wrestle the title out of Bayern’s hands. Leipzig’s first game was a dramatic affair as they fought back from being behind twice to grab a 2-2 draw against Hoffenheim. Dortmund were comfortable in defeating Mainz 2-1 despite not playing anywhere near the standard they are capable of, as Mainz’s goal was nothing more than a consolation right at the death.
Dortmund were the leading scorers in the Bundesliga last season with an impressive 82 goals and this was the major reason why they finished 18 points clear of third-placed Leverkusen. They made the Westfalenstadion a fortress, remaining unbeaten there as their four defeats all came on the road, two of which were to bottom-half sides.
Last season, Leipzig were not the most entertaining side in the 2. Bundesliga as they only notched up 54 goals. Their success was built on a rock solid defence, which conceded just 32 times. They are well backed financially by Red Bull and indeed they have invested heavily in the window with over £20m spent on new players and as such they look well equipped to survive.
In short, this is a battle between a potent offence and a solid defence and we have to side with Dortmund. They are a side blessed with heaps of creativity and it is not hard to see the likes of Aubameyang getting plenty of opportunities and so we are backing Dortmund to win and Over 2.5 Goals . There’s certainly every chance Leipzig could get on the scoresheet as Dortmund have only kept five clean sheets in their last 16 on the road.
