Goals look on the cards in Bayern's Friday night trip to Mainz (BT Sport).
FSV Mainz 05 v Bayern Munich – Friday 19:30, BT Sport ESPN
After a hard-fought victory over Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend, Bayern travel north-west to face a Mainz side who blew their early lead at Hertha Berlin this weekend. Bayern sit sandwiched between Hertha in third and RB Leipzig in first at the top end of the table, and will have their sights set on taking three points home against a side that has struggled for consistency this season.
Bayern’s loss against Dortmund two weeks ago was their first away loss in the league in 14 games, and they will be desperate to beat Mainz, who snatched a late winner against the Bavarians when they last clashed in March. In their last 10 games against middle-third teams, Bayern have gone W8-D2-L0, and they’d won seven in a row against Mainz prior to that defeat. However, the home side have not been down at half-time in any of their last 16 home games and Bayern have been on level pegging or behind at the interval in five of their last seven away games, so 2.8 looks a decent price for a half-time draw.
Bayern will eventually prove too strong for Mainz 05, particularly with the home side missing important holding midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin. Furthermore, this season Mainz have taken just one point from their six games against the current top 10 while conceding 17 goals as all the matches had at least three strikes. Bayern have conceded in six of their last seven as they’ve not been altogether convincing under Carlo Ancelotti so back Bayern Munich and Over 2.5 at 1.85.
