RB Leipzig continue to dominate the Bundesliga, and this week they welcome a Schalke side unbeaten in their last 12 matches in all competitions. Schalke came from behind last weekend to beat Darmstadt, and they will be fearless entering into their first-ever clash against the team the rest of the league loves to hate – a good run of form between now and Christmas could propel Schalke to within touching distance of the top four.
Leipzig put four past Freiburg last weekend away from home in a game that saw Timo Werner score his second brace in his last three games. They remain undefeated, and they have won seven in a row, so they could hardly be in better form. Marvin Compper remains sidelined at the back for the second consecutive game, although Stefan Ilsanker’s link-up play with Willi Orban was more than ample in Compper’s stead. Schalke are a sterner challenge than Freiburg, but they have lost all of their five most recent away games against top-six teams, and they have won just one game on the road in the league this season, which was against strugglers Wolfsburg.
