Bayern could find it tough to break down a resilient Atletico side on Wednesday.
Atletico Madrid v Bayern Munich - Wednesday 19:45, BT Sport EXTRA
In a repeat of last seasons’ semi-final, Atletico face off with Bayern, who are now led by Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian’s had the perfect start to his career in Germany as he’s won all nine of his games so far, though with the exception of Dortmund in the Super Cup, his side are yet to really be tested. However, a visit to Simeone’s Atletico is up there with the toughest assignments in European football and after a slow start to the season, Atleti look back to their usual selves as Barca are the only team to have scored against them in their last five games.
Benfica are the only side to win at the Vincente Calderon in Atletico’s 17 Champions League home games since 2013/14 as they’ve remarkably conceded just four goals in these matches, with 12 clean sheets in the last 13. Indeed none of Barca, Juve, Real or Bayern themselves have managed to score in five games at Atletico in this period, as the hosts have won four of these. Four of these games had fewer than two goals, while the other was a 2-0 win over Barca.
Indeed, as Bayern have failed to score in three of their four trips to sides we have ranked in Europe’s top five since 2013/14, the Atletico clean sheet looks a solid play. Bayern have lost six of their nine trips to top five teams since 2008/09 and given Atletico’s excellent home record in recent years, we’re certainly siding with the hosts Draw No Bet.
