Goals could be thin on the ground in Neil Warnock's first game as Cardiff boss.
Cardiff v Bristol City - Friday 19:45, Sky Sports 1
Neil Warnock will renew hostilities with Lee Johnson in his first game as Cardiff manager. Warnock never saw eye to eye with Johnson’s dad, Gary, when the latter was Bristol City boss and he seems determined to continue the personal feud with Lee after taking exception to pre-match quotes in the local newspaper prior to last season’s clash with Rotherham.
Warnock inherits a team second from bottom of the Championship with the second-worst shot ratio. The Bluebirds have won just two matches, both against the other two teams occupying the drop zone. Against the rest of the division, they’ve taken just two points from a possible 27. In five home matches, no Cardiff player has yet found the net.
By contrast, Bristol boast the third-best shot ratio in the division, although they have benefited from a relatively easy schedule having picked up 17 of their 20 points against bottom-half opposition. The Robins believe something special is happening but their failure to win away at Rotherham after the last international break serves as a fair warning here.
Warnock’s last four jobs have been littered with low-scoring encounters in the early weeks. Taking the first three matches from each tenure, you'll find nine matches (out of 12) that finished under 1.5 goals, so take the 13/5 available here. And five of them finished 0-0, including the opening game on three occasions, which also makes the 11/1 no goalscorer price too good to resist.
