Swindon have been dumped out of the FA Cup in the first round in each of the past four seasons.
Eastleigh v Swindon - Friday 19:55, BBC One
Eastleigh were hammered 4-0 in front of the television cameras at Barrow last time out, only their second defeat in 14 matches under Ronnie Moore. But that was on BT Sport and a date with League One opposition on the BBC should be enough to liven up a host of well-paid household names to atone by imposing themselves on a mentally-fragile Swindon side.
The Spitfires will be without captain Ryan Cresswell, whose straight red on 46 minutes kickstarted their Holker Street horror show, but they are well-stocked for players of his experience. Read Johnson, Andy Drury, Jason Taylor, Ryan Bird, James Constable and Jamie Cureton - there’s some top-notch EFL calibre in all areas of the pitch, making the home win a gimme at 19/10.
Luke Williams can call upon nowhere near that amount of experience and he raised some worrying issues about their mentality following last weekend’s 4-1 defeat at Scunthorpe, in which they were 4-0 down at half time. The Robins are now in the drop zone and the manager’s position is under threat, so this has all the makings of a night to forget for the Wiltshire club.
Mind you, an FA Cup nightmare would be nothing new under the ownership over Lee Power. Swindon have been dumped out at the first hurdle in each of the past four seasons- twice to non-league Macclesfield - and they’ve been beaten by two clear goals in each instance (aggregate 14-1). Take the 21/5 available on Eastleigh to clear the -1 handicap.
