Eleven of Malaga’s 19 road matches had fewer than two goals last term.
Espanyol v Malaga - Friday 21:00, Sky Sports Interactive
Quique Sanchez Flores’ first home game in charge of Espanyol comes off the back of an extraordinary trip to Sevilla where they lost 6-4. For the neutral it was a real spectacle, with 90 minutes of constant attacking threat and goal action, however for the managers and in particular Sanchez Flores, serious questions must be asked after some horrendous defending. They face a Malaga side here who unconvincingly drew their opening game at home to promoted Osasuna.
Espanyol fared significantly better at home (W9-D5-L5) than they did on their travels last season as 32 of their 43 points came at the RCDE Stadium. Malaga similarly struggled on the road, only picking up four wins. They struggled for goals all season as they netted just 38 times and only 12 of those came on the road.
As a result, 11 of Malaga’s 19 road matches saw fewer than two goals and since Espanyol were far from prolific scorers themselves, netting only 40 times all season, we are going to ignore the crazy game at Sevilla and expect Flores to be much more cautious in his approach here. With that in mind, this should be a cagey affair and we’re backing Under 1.5 Goals.
