Barcelona might be in for a shock against in-form Real Sociedad on Sunday night.
Real Sociedad v Barcelona – Sunday 19:45, Sky Sports 1
Barcelona performed well enough at Celtic in their midweek Champions League fixture to go through to the last 16 as group winners, but now face the altogether different prospect of a Sunday night in San Sebastián as they travel to Real Sociedad. La Real have collected four consecutive league wins, and with Malaga holding Barcelona to a scoreless draw last weekend, the hosts will have real hopes of downing Barcelona as they continue to apply pressure on the top four.
It is nearly a decade since Barca won at Anoeta, and Real Sociedad have not conceded at home since early September, so if Barca are to win, they will have to do so against one of the strongest home defences in the league. Sociedad are missing Pardo and Bergara, but these are long-term absences, and to all intents and purposes they are a fully-fit outfit. Barcelona will be buoyed by yet another stunning performance from the talismanic Messi at Celtic Park this week, but both Neymar and Luis Suarez are struggling for goals and Sociedad will be confident of restricting their chances.
Barcelona have had their worst start in the league since the turn of the millennium and last season they lost three of their eight trips to top-half non-Big Two finishers. Sociedad are obviously not to be underestimated playing at home, but it would be foolish to write Barcelona off when Messi seems back to his best. To account for this uncertainty, we’re going for Real Sociedad Draw No Bet.
