Mike Holden has two fancies for this League Two game
Notts County v Morecambe - Saturday 15:00
Jim Bentley has been linked with the vacant Tranmere post and did little to distance himself in the post-match interview following Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at Barnet. The Liverpudlian has given Morecambe their customary fast start but will be mindful of past collapses and how his stock plummeted at the Globe Arena last term when he picked up just 11 points from the final 21 matches.
The Shrimps conceded a staggering 91 goals in 2015/16 and have continued where they left off, leaking nearly two per game this term. Don’t be fooled by the lofty position (9th), their defensive record, whichever metric you look at, is dreadful. Given the recent distractions, this could be an opportunity for Notts County to bag a hatful.
The Magpies are slowly getting it together under John Sheridan. A false start is gradually being forgotten with five wins in the last seven, bagging three goals apiece against Crawley, Cheltenham and Leyton Orient, while they were 2-0 up after 34 minutes at Exeter in midweek before taking their foot off the gas.
So bets on over 2.5 home goals and over 3.5 home goalsover 3.5 home goals at 8/1 are relatively easy to justify. Morecambe shipped five at home to Doncaster three weeks ago and three at home to Crawley last weekend. Last season, they let in four-plus on eight occasions, including seven at Cambridge last April. With Jon Stead and Jonathan Forte up front for Notts, little else needs to be said.
