Patrick Viera's side can make it five home wins on the bounce on Thursday night.
New York City v DC United - Friday 00:00, Sky Sports 1
DC Utd are 6th in the Eastern Conference and they visit Yankee Stadium fresh off a 6-2 victory over Chicago Fire in what was by far their most impressive performance of the season. They face a New York City side who still sit 2nd in the Eastern Conference, just two points off Toronto, despite a 2-1 defeat to a Kaka-inspired Orlando City in their last game.
City have been consistent both at home and away this term, with 20 of their points coming at home and 21 on the road. Having won only one of their first nine games at Yankee Stadium, City seem to have found their mojo at home, winning their last four in front of their own fans. They’ve scored 11 goals in the process and have led at the break in each of those wins.
They face a DC side who have struggled on the road, winning just once in their last 17 going back to last season. They have however managed seven draws in their 12 road games this term as Toronto and Philadelphia are the only sides to have beaten them. They’ve netted in four of their last five on the road, whilst City have managed only two clean sheets in their last nine at home as the likes of Lampard and Villa have been on song going forward, but Vieira’s men have been leaky at the back.
As a result, while we think they’ll make it five home wins in a row we do expect DC to find the net, so we’re backing New York City to win and both teams to score.
