Goals look on the cards when Liverpool host Sunderland this weekend.
Liverpool v Sunderland - Saturday 15:00
Liverpool remain very much a team on the up despite their goalless stalemate at Southampton last week, and no one seriously expects them to draw another blank at home to Sunderland. Jurgen Klopp’s side are unbeaten in 13 at Anfield, scoring at least twice in 10 of these games, whilst Sunderland have only kept a single clean sheet in their last 18 road trips. Indeed, against the Saints, Liverpool were let down more by their finishing than their build-up play, with only two of their 15 attempts on target.
Sunderland followed up their first win of the season over Bournemouth with an impressive 3-0 victory over a desperate Hull side, and though they’ve only moved up the table one place, there are at least now other teams in sight above them. The introduction of Victor Anichebe to the starting 11 in their last two matches has paid dividends for David Moyes, with the Nigerian striker netting three times, and it will be interesting to see whether the Sunderland manager is brave enough to play a second forward here.
Liverpool are unbeaten in 10 matches, having won seven of these games, but both teams have scored in 11 of their last 14 as a clean sheet remains a rare occurrence for the Reds. We think Sunderland can grab a consolation goal on the way to defeat, so we’re backing Liverpool/both teams to score.
