The hosts look a spot of value to get one over former boss Ronald Koeman.
Southampton v Everton - Sunday 16:30, Sky Sports 1
Southampton held Liverpool’s attack at bay at St. Mary’s last week, their first clean sheet in five games, and as a result it leaves them with the best defensive record in the league outside the current top five. They’re now four games without a win, but it must be noted that this run included games against other title contenders Man City and Chelsea. At home, the Saints have won 10 of their last 16, only losing twice, and against a stuttering Everton side will fancy themselves to end their winless streak on Sunday.
The Toffees left it late to rescue a point at home to bottom of the table Swansea last week, and the draw means that Ronald Koeman’s side have managed just a single victory in their last eight matches across all competitions, losing half of these games. Away from Goodison Park their record becomes somewhat alarming, with six defeats in nine including in three of the last four.
Southampton should be made favourites here, and given they’ve managed to score first in six of their last seven matches where there was at least one goal, whilst Everton have conceded first in seven of their last nine away games, we like the look of Southampton/Southampton in the half-time/full-time market at 3.5. The Saints typically finish the job when they score first at home, winning 10 of their last 11 such matches, whilst Everton have trailed at both half-time and full-time in six of their last seven away matches when they’ve conceded first.
