Martin O'Neill's side can take all the points from Saturday's trip to Austria.
Austria v Republic Of Ireland - Saturday 17:00, Sky Sports 1
Austria were phenomenal in qualifying for Euro 2016, unbeaten with nine wins from 10, but fell apart at the tournament and haven’t improved much since. It’s now one win in seven for them, with four defeats during this sequence of results. They’ve only managed a solitary clean sheet from their last 11, and with Ireland having only failed to find the net once in their last nine on the road, it’s difficult to envisage Marcelo Koller’s men keeping their opponents at bay.
The Republic of Ireland have won four of their last six matches, including victory over the Italians, with their only defeat during this run coming against hosts France at Euro 2016. Martin O’Neill has his side well drilled, but Austria have been involved in plenty of high scoring games with both teams scoring in five of their last six at home and five seeing at least three strikes.
We’ll take a chance onIreland to win and both teams to score at a juicy 8/1 as Austria have only won one of their last four at home (a narrow 2-1 victory over minnows Malta), and their previous three home wins were against Albania, Liechtenstein and Moldova. For all the pre-Euro 2016 talk of being dark horses, it was possibly overlooked that their strong qualification record came from one of the weakest groups, featuring an old Russian team and a Swedish side dependent on Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s magic as their main rivals.
