Niall Lyons has two picks for this week's tournament at the Sheshan International.
The Sheshan International steps up as host once again for this years renewal of the HSBC Champions. This is one of my favourite WGC's of the calendar and a top class field has assembled. There are plenty of notable absentees as many top up their tan in the off season but this event yields a pretty prize and plenty will be looking for a win. The course down the years has featured all types of contenders. The straight hitting Knox won last year and another straight hitter Tim Clark was just pipped to the post the year before by slugger Bubba.
Dustin, Kaymer and Molinari highlight that both types of games can be successful around here. Rain has softened up the course and which will suit the longer hitters but a fair breeze may blow throughout the event which will make things tougher.
McIlroy arrives at a tasty enough price considering he has had a very decent final third to his season. He and Dustin Johnson have had a few weeks off and with some golfers in behind playing some great stuff I'd prefer to pass up the 5s and 6s about this pair.
PAUL CASEY is finally out to a backable price and now at a venue where he can be more confident. He is having major trouble getting over the line in recent US events and a return to the Far East is welcome. Casey has notched five top tens here down the years and with four top5 finishes in his last 6 starts he comes here in fine form. This is a strong field but for a tournament which theoretically feels like a European Tour event, he will stand a much better chance. I have kept my powder dry on Casey in recent weeks as many got carried away with his solid form, but at 25/1 around Sheshan he represents a decent each-way bet.
RAFAEL CABRERA-BELLO has only played here once but with a much improved game in tow than four years ago I believe he can go well on a venue that should suit. We have all seen his game improve a lot over the last twelve months but all that has been missing is a visit to the winners enclosure. With seven top five finishes and a further nine top 25 finishes Bello has become a consistent money making machine. His short game is now a lot better than most give him credit for. He shot 13 under at last weeks CIMB and now travelling to Sheshan I wasn't expecting 66/1 to be available. Not much else appeals in this event so we'll be leaving it at those two for now.
