The favourites are proving hard to oppose in all 3 Group races for juveniles at HQ. Shalaa wins, surely. The best 2 year old we’ve seen, his French form has been franked and he won in the style of a serious horse. I fancy Ajaya could be the one to chase him home. Deauville also had his form franked on Thursday at the track and he deserves to be favourite for the Royal Lodge. John Gosden, who had a good day yesterday at the track, sends out Foundation and he’s clearly incredibly talented. I just worry about his tendency to break slowly. It’ll be trickier to make up ground and not pay for it in this company and we’ve seen it a benefit to be on the pace all week here. Illuminate will be a big danger to the incredibly progressive Besharah in the Cheveley Park. The level of improvement the Haggas filly has shown though means she deserves to be favourite and, given the manner of her Lowther victory, she should prove too good for these. All 3 are going in a multiple with Emotionless in the Dewhurst who is finally, and quite rightly favourite.

As far as the Cambridgeshire goes, an initial shortlist of 11 has been whittled down to 3, all worth a play and the sole bets on the day. Gm Hopkins must get a mention as the best of those nearer the top of the market and I fancy he’ll go very close. However, there’s so much value to be had in behind and we start with Gabrials Kaka. He’s never one to take a short price about but is so well treated and this could be just the test he needs. The visor didn’t work last time but a big, wide, galloping straight track and big field over 9 should give him a sniff at a chunky price. Express Himself is another that looks too big and he’s had this on the agenda for a while. His Birdman form has worked out very well and he’s shaped nicely on his 2 latest starts. The most recent was over further and he was again keeping on but this mark still looks feasible and a big field test will suit over 9. The yard are going along nicely too. With 5 places widely available I also want a little on Margarets Mission at a silly price. She’s been over inadequate trips and this should be more her bag. It’s a step up but I thought she shaped well at York over too short in a hot race and we can put a line through Doncaster. As far as the draw goes I can’t see a benefit pace wise but these 3 provide ammunition across the track.
