DOCTOR PHOENIX (best price 12/1) has always been regarded as a proper chaser in the making by connections and this track (fairly easy fences) should provide David Dennis’ potential star with a decent chance of getting off the mark at the first time of asking in this new discipline. The son of Dr Massini ran a series of fine races over hurdles last season - winning on two occasions at Newcastle and Uttoxeter - but it’s only now this former point-to-point winner should start fulfilling his potential. Providing he gets into an early rhythm, this powerful, strong-travelling type has the qualities to make a big impact in this race and going forward for the rest of the season.

Hitherto frustrating maiden FERGAL MAEL DUIN (best price 7/5) is clearly not one for maximum stakes (beaten favourite on six of his last seven starts) but at the same time there’s no denying he has the ability to win a race of this nature on the pick of his best form. David Bridgwater’s charge clearly goes well fresh as he posted his best performance on his seasonal return last year when chasing home the useful Seventh Sky at Plumpton, and a repeat of that effort should ensure his patient owners can finally pop champagne corks.

BREAKING BITS (best price 4/1) > is a fairly reliable sort and having run up to his best form on both starts this season, he can gain just rewards for his consistency. Jamie Snowden’s inmate ran perfectly respectably on his seasonal return when third behind the in-form Cousin Khee at Uttoxeter and followed that up with another solid performance last time out at Huntingdon. Having gone well throughout, the son of Oscar was unlucky to be denied victory in the dying embers of the race by the persistent Isaac Bell, but with the time of the contest a reasonably good one for the grade, the form should be worth following. At his best when racing right-handed on a sound surface, this sharp two miles should prove ideal and he rates solid each-way fodder in what looks a wide-open affair.

Although BEST EXAMPLE (best price 15/8) fluffed his lines when sent off a well-backed favourite on his seasonal return over tonight’s track, he did more than enough to suggest the money investment in Saeed Bin Suroor’s charge than evening was only lent. Patently finding the early gallop too hot to handle, the son of King’s Best found himself towards the back of the field as the pack rounded the home turn, but finishing to good effect once entering the straight, he rattled home to such a degree, he left the distinct impression he’d be a totally different proposition when upped In trip. Well drawn in trap one, he should hopefully find the slightly more sedate pace over two furlongs extra more to his liking and he’s fancied to get the better of main market rival Natural Nine, who hasn’t run for 134 days.
Best Example - 2pt @ 15/8
