EXIT EUROPE (best price 9/4) remains in excellent heart at present and looks a good bet to follow up his recent smooth Kempton success. A well run seven furlongs seems to suit Andrew Reid’s charge ideally and given that he likes to stalk the pace before pouncing on his prey in the latter stages, today’s track should also play into his strengths.

KILTY CAUL (best price 9/1) ran really well in what turned out to be a very competitive and strongly run mares’ race at Towcester last time out and she could turn out to be leniently treated off a mark of 115 on the evidence of that display. A former point winner, Kim Bailey’s charge shaped as though 2m wasn’t a sufficient enough test despite the stiffness of the track that afternoon and now racing over a trip more in-keeping with her profile, she should come into her own hailing from a stable that are churning out the winners of late.

Henry De Bromhead rarely wastes too many bullets bringing horses over the Irish Sea and in the shape of CROWN THEATRE (best price 11/2), the Co Waterford handler seems to have identified the perfect race for his improving six-year-old. The son of King’s Theatre appeared to have a hugely competitive 2m handicap chase at his mercy last time when he jumped to the front two fences from home, but he somehow manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by finding less than anticipated on the run-in. No doubt Barry Geraghty will be given instructions to ride his mount with balls of steel and if he can time his challenge to a nicety, there’s every chance the selection will deliver the goods.

STRAIDNAHANNA (best price 6/1) doesn’t have a gear change but the one thing he does do is keep galloping, and that’s going to be a vital ingredient to success under what should turn out to be arduous conditions here today. Sue Smith’s charge shaped as though the run will do him good when chasing home in the in-form and fitter Gold Futures at Kelso on his seasonal return and having run well on numerous occasions at today’s track, the son of Medaaly makes quite a bit of each-way appeal at the prices.

ILLEGALLY BLONDE (best price 5/2) was involved in the fastest furlong-per-furlong time a week ago and a repeat of that performance should allow Jamie Osbourne’s inmate to regain the winning thread. Although the daughter of Lawman was no match for the easy winner Parkour, the way she finished off her race on her all-weather debut suggests she will continue to give her connections plenty of fun over the winter months – hopefully starting with a victory here tonight.

THATABOY (best price 16/1) got into more pockets than my handkerchief over C&D last time out and has been handed a decent opportunity to make amends for that desperately unlucky episode in this similar heat. The feature of that performance was how Tom Dascombe’s charge travelled throughout what turned out to be an extremely strongly run handicap, but unfortunately for his supporters that evening, he got no run whatsoever in the latter stages. Considering that was his first run for 156 days, he’s fully entitled to come on for the run and being a previous course winner, he appears to have brighter prospects than his early price suggests.

RIGHT MADAM (best price 6/1) produced a performance last time out that heavily implies she’s ready to strike in the not too distance future and tonight’s race provides her with the ideal opportunity to finally get off the mark. Staying on strongly in the latter stages of a well-run 1m 1f handicap eight days ago, Sara Hollinshead’s filly posted a final circuit of 1.36.3 – which is very good for the grade – and with the promise of more to come over this extra distance, the daughter of Jeremy is worth an each-way punt.
