13:50 Cheltenham

Not the most competitive of Saturday cards but we do see class at Cheltenham. Peace And Co is unbeaten and his Triumph form has been advertised by stable companion Top Notch pulling clear of Wicklow Brave in the Fighting Fifth, further than Faugheen and Nicholls Canyon managed in Ireland, though that fact probably shouldn’t be given too much emphasis. Top Notch did need his return it seemed and so too may Peace And Co, who’s never fully convinced with his head carriage, but he’s the class in the race and I expect he’ll take this modest renewal from Old Guard, who ultimately wants better ground.

The fact that the sole bet on the day is Buywise pretty much sums up the action. He’s certainly not a horse to put a great deal of faith in but he’s still bigger than I thought he may be. His last win came on the new course and that certainly seems to suit him better. A galloping 2m 5f on soft ground with pace on would probably be his ideal conditions and he gets that here. The more emphasis on stamina the better and early rain will help with that, so too the 3 or so bits of likely pace in the form of Art Mauresque, Shantou Magic and potentially Little Jon. He’ll need luck, not slipping and finding trouble as he did last time would help, but he should be thereabouts off a 4lb higher mark in a race which looks less competitive. It might be silly to favour him over the 1lb worse off Annacotty, who will also appreciate a shower or two, but I think this could just suit the frustrating Buywise that little bit more and he's worth one last show of faith.
