Having finished a close-up second to the rapidly improved Truckers Highway back in December, it would have come as little surprise to find THOONAVOLLA(best price 4/1) raised in the ratings retrospectively given that the winner is now sitting on a perch of 120 following a couple of victories subsequently. Tom Weston’s charge, however, has rather fortuitously avoided any nasty repercussions and he appears to have a gilt-edged opportunity in this race as a result. Prior to that excellent beginning for new connections, the son of Beneficial had shown some decent form for Eoin Doyle in his native Ireland, and as most of his best efforts came over further than 2m, the step up in trip today should allow him to run to maximum capacity.
Thoonavolla - 1pt e/w @ 4/1
MONKHOUSE(best price 7/4) ran to a very high standard when third to the smart Le Prezien on hurdling debut at Ludlow and he should be capable of taking advantage of this seemingly easier task. Not only has the winner of that race gone on to land a Grade 2 at Kelso subsequently, Will O’The West back in fifth also boosted the form next time and given that Kim Bailey’s charge was outpaced more than anything in the latter stages, the step up to 2m 4f seems the logical step to make.
