The Flat is back and our top tipster Andy Holding has six great bets on Lincoln day.
Godolphin aren’t really renowned for having a tilt at the season’s first big handicap, but it looks as though they mean business this time around saddling two live contenders in the shape of UDODODONTU (best price 10/1)
and SECRET BRIEF (best price 18/1)
. Arriving here straight off their sunbeds having been campaigned out in Dubai, both have displayed a level of form out in the desert to suggest they can put their race fitness to good use. The former, a creditable runner-up to War Envoy in the Britannia Handicap at Royal Ascot when in the care of Richard Guest, made a bright start to his career for new connections with a sparking performance in a strongly-run affair on the Meydan turf and although he failed to follow up next time when well fancied to do so, he lost nothing in defeat behind stable companion Carry On Deryck. As the field came down the middle in this race last year, the son of Lope D Vega could well turn out to be well drawn in stall 10 and with the ground continuing to dry out in his favour, a big run can be expected. The latter also ran well in the very same handicap as his stable mate last time out and having run to a decent level throughout most of his career, he’s also worth a shot at a big price.

PLUCKY DIP (best price 6/1)
is a pretty reliable conveyance here at the Surrey venue and having bounced back to something in line with his best form last week, another big run looks on the cards. In a strongly-run affair, John Ryan’s charge found himself some way back in the early exchanges, but picking up well in the latter stages, he finished to good effect up the inside rail to claim second prize behind the red-hot Spring Loaded. Potentially well drawn if he can break a little more cleanly this time around, the son of Nayef makes plenty of each-way appeal with the dead eight set to go to post.

Mick Channon’s team seem to be in decent form at present and MOBSTA (best price 14/1)
is taken to keep up the good work returning to the scene of a most unlucky effort on his final start last season. In a race similar to todays, the son of Bushranger was noted travelling really strongly just in behind the speed when he hit a brick wall of horses dropping back into his lap approaching the final furlong. Eased up and finishing hard on the bridle, it’s safe to say the four-year-old would have been heavily involved in the finish with a clear run and if stall 14 turns out to be a decent draw, there’s no way this talented colt should be 14/1 given his track form and general consistency.

Considering how much energy she expended by pulling hard throughout the early exchanges, LADY OF LAMANVER (best price 13/2)
did incredibly well to force the smart Sunshine Corner to fight all the way to the line at Fontwell last time out and she looks dangerously well handicapped based on that excellent performance. Other than one slightly below-par display at Taunton two starts ago, all her efforts suggests she will be a winning a race sooner rather than later, and although it’s a tough ask for her to break her duck in a race of this nature, it would be no surprise to see Harry Fry’s mare put up a bold show all the same.

As the time figure of the Fred Winter Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival suggested that particular handicap wasn’t far behind the standard set in the Triumph Hurdle itself, DUKE STREET (best odds 9/2)
is fancied to fly the flag for the form having finished a creditable ninth of 22 in that Prestbury Park tear-up. Although eventually beaten 23 lengths behind Diego Du Charmil, Dr Newland’s charge paid heavily for racing on the sharp end of what turned out to be a brutal gallop and providing he’s ridden with a little more restraint on this occasion, the son of Duke Of Marmalade has every chance of being much more competitive at the business end.
