York 14:10

Pace in 2,3,9,10,15 and 16 for the opener means this could suit a hold up type. I’m hoping Son Of Africa is ridden that way for the drop back to 5 furlongs, which should certainly help him settle. He was keen on first start for 8 months last time in Group 3 company and that found him out at the trip. Prior to that he was disappointing at this trip at Ascot in July. The fact that we didn’t see him again suggests something may have been amiss and he’s back here off 6lb lower. Prior to Ascot he’d been progressive when romping home over this trip at the July course and then running respectably when meeting trouble in Group company at Sandown. James Doyle has won on him before and he has plenty in his favour here.

York 15:45

It's easy to make a case for a couple in the feature handicap on the York card. Birdman is a previous course and distance winner who ran a solid 4th in the Lincoln on return (he does go well fresh). He was then travelling nicely before getting stopped at Haydock as Erik The Red made his way through and is back at a course he clearly likes with the winning jockey for his last success back on. Big price. Also worth supporting, another from a handy draw, is One Word More. He was drawn very wide over course and distance when keeping on behind Chil The Kite and shows up here off 5lb lower. He proved he got the trip that day and shaped for a return to a mile last time when drawn wide and keeping on over 7 at Haydock. He doesn’t win for fun but is better drawn today to settle in behind and looks overpriced.
