MYSTIC PRINCESS (NAP) (best price 13/2) looked on good terms with herself when returning to something like her best form at Downpatrick last time out and representing a stable that do really well with their runners at this stiff track, Mark McNiff’s inmate can be expected to put up a bold show. Not only did the daughter of Manduro post a decent overall speed figure that evening, her final lap time was 3.4 seconds faster than the maiden hurdle won by Rise Of An Empire – who has gone on to win since. Using that horse has a guide, this in-form five-year-old, therefore, still doesn’t appear too badly treated despite a 6lb rise in the ratings, and having won at this corresponding meeting last year, hopes are high that she can repeat the dose twelve months on.

FLOWERS ON VENUS (best price 9/2) bounced back to form at Ascot last time out when returning to a decent surface and with his career trajectory back on track, David Evans’ inmate is fancied to go close in a race which looks well within his capabilities on the evidence of his run at the Berkshire venue. Racing away from the speed, the Raven’s Pass gelding just didn’t have anything to tow him into the business end of the race in that 6f affair eventually won by Muir Lodge, but it was encouraging to say the least to see how this lightly-raced four-year-old swam against the tide in the final few furlongs. Drawn favourably towards the stands side fence, Andrea Atzeni should be able to get the perfect lead he requires before delivering his mount late in the piece.

ZAMBEASY (best price 10/1) may have been given a sublime ride by Jamie Spencer when scoring over today’s C&D last time out but the time figure suggested the performance was as good as the execution in the saddle. Making most of the running, Philip Hide’s charge stayed on strongly in the closing stages after being momentarily headed by Stockhill Diva before the furlong pole and with the well-backed All My Love well beaten back in third, the form looks even more solid. Although tonight’s examination represents another test of his capabilities, the son of Zamindar may have the sufficient skills to overcome a career-high mark.
