Top pundit Tony Elves has two bets from day two of Ayr's Gold Cup meeting.
With the ground virtually untraceable at Newbury it could prove wise to stay North of the Border at Ayr and NAVAL WARFARE has plenty of appeal in the seven furlong maiden that opens the card. Andrew Balding has his team in fine fettle right now and 3lb claimer Rob Hornby is rapidly progressing through the ranks in his chosen profession. The Qatar racing-owned colt is progressing nicely himself and, after a promising first effort when fourth to Larchmont Lad at Sandown in July, he found only Math Prize a half a length too good at Ffos Las later in the month. Further progress can be expected from Naval Warfare and this looks a decent opportunity for him to get off the mark.
Keith Dagleish has already got off the mark at the meeting and he could well prosper again in the six furlong nursery with ROCK N ROLLA. The topweight made all when beating Areen Heart two length in a seven furlong maiden at Thirsk earlier this month and should not be inconvenienced by this drop to six furlongs. Dalgliesh’s employs the services of Joe Fanning and the partnership look reasonably priced at odds of around 7-1.
