Nick Luck hit the target with 14-1 winner Spain Burg yesterday so don't miss today's bets.
The Royal Lodge Stakes (2.20) looks a warm affair but I’m a big fan of Hugo Palmer’s Godolphin colt BEST OF DAYS who should relish the step up to a mile. I thought he travelled up in the Acomb Sakes live a very smart horse and, if that experience has put an edge on the son of Azamour, he is going to be hard to beat despite this looking a competitive renewal.
It’s hard to know which Lady Aurelia is going to turn up in the Cheveley Park Stakes (2.55), the one that was so devastating in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot or the one that got the job done in the Morny last time. If it’s the former, then the others would probably need to start now to get near her, but if it’s the latter then she is by no means invincible. I suspect she will probably win but at the prices it’s worth having a small play on ROLY POLY who doesn’t have much to find with Lowther winner Queen Kindly and Aidan O’Brien’s filly will be ideally suited by the quick underfoot conditions on the Rowley Mile.
I don’t see much merit in opposing BLUE POINT in the Middle Park Stakes (3.30) given the Godolphin colt can be backed at odds-against. His defeat to Mehmas in the Richmond Stakes can probably be put down to inexperience – it was only his third start at the time, whereas the winner was having his sixth outing, and Blue Point stepped up considerably on that when bolting up in the Gimcrack at York last time. He is very highly regarded at Charlie Appleby’s yard and remains a colt of major potential.
A lot of the horses I had earmarked in the Cambridgeshire (4.10) need slightly easier ground than they are going to face this afternoon, but one who will love the quick terrain is CELESTIAL PATH and I fancy him to give Sir Mark Prescott his fourth victory in this prestigious contest. He is drawn in stall 32 and, on balance, I think I would prefer if he was drawn more towards the middle but he’s a classy horse – he was fifth in a Guineas here, he’s not badly handicapped as he showed when only narrowly beaten in a hot race at York in July and he’s got the right run style for a race like this.
