In-form Sam Turner guides you through the six Group One races at Chantilly on Sunday.
Frankel offspring Toulifaut will be rightly popular here after her course and distance victory earlier this month, but she is likely to be found in the market and DABYAH (Best price 5-1) could be a better value option. John Gosden’s filly coped well with easy ground at Newbury last time so any further easing in the conditions won’t compromise her chance and I liked the manner of her professionalism that day when making all. She may only have beaten three rivals, but she had also impressed on debut at Newmarket and her temperament should stand her in good stead on a big-race day such as this afternoon.
KONTRASTAT (Best price 2-1) quickened up well to take a Saint-cloud Group 3 and could be the bet to win a seemingly sub-standard renewal of this famous race. His ability to change gear off a muddling pace could stand the selection in good stead and there is a good chance we may not have seen the best of him yet.
So Mi Dar sets a strong standard here and returned from a lengthy break with a smooth Yarmouth victory so will be tough to beat. However, SPEEDY BOARDING (Best price 6-1) has won on both of her trips to France and looks a touch of value to supplement her impressive win in the Prix Jean Romanet last month. She is already proven in Group 1 company in contrast to the favourite from John Gosden’s yard so looks worth supporting at a much bigger price.
It is unoriginal but if POSTPONED (Best price 2-1) brings his ‘A’ game to Chantilly then his rivals will struggle to cope with his power and acceleration. Any horse which has the stamina to win top-class races over 12 furlongs allied with the cruising speed to be last off the bridle in a Juddmonte International is going to be a tough proposition in a race like the Arc. Three successive Group 1 victories have stamped Postponed as the pre eminent middle distance performer in the world and he is a clear standout in an Arc field lacking a little in class. Order Of St George could be one that surprises a little at a price. His recent Curragh defeat should be ignored as that looked a prep for this.
Connections of MECCA’S ANGEL (Best price 7-4) won’t be disappointed to have seen the rain that fell at Chantilly yesterday and she has a belting chance of completing a magnificent season with another Group 1 success. The time of her Nunthorpe victory was off the scale and she disposed of a high-class rival in Limato with disdain.
PROFITABLE (Best price 7-1) probably lost his chance at York when bumped at the start and, although he has four lengths to find on that running, could easily narrow the gap as there was only a neck between the two old adversaries in the Temple Stakes at Haydock.
Only a quagmire would dent confidence in LIMATO (Best price 10-11) who clearly holds the key to this race and should take all the beating. Although the son of Tagula was beaten in this event 12 months ago, he has looked a class act on occasions this year and has clearly improved again. The selection lost nothing in defeat behind Mecca’s Angel in the Nunthorpe and should outclass his rivals here.
