Ante-post favourite St Michel is not certain to make the 34-strong field.
Backers of ante-post favourite St Michel are by no means certain to get a run for their money in Saturday’s Betfred Cesarewitch.
Sir Mark Prescott’s three-year-old, a current 6-1 market leader for the 2m2f contest, needs a couple more defectors if he is going to get the chance to cash in what appears a golden opportunity, given he is officially 15lb ‘well in’ having been raised to a rating of 112 on the back of his brilliant third in the Group 2 Doncaster Cup last month.
Last year’s winner Grumeti also needs horses to come out if he is to defend his crown.
However, backers of St Michel and Grumeti could have a friend in the shape of Tony Martin, who won the race in 2007 with Leg Spinner. Two of the Irish trainer's remaining four entries (both above Grumeti and St Michel in the weights) are reportedly more likely to switch to the Irish Cesarewitch on Sunday.
David Pipe has enlisted the services of Ryan Moore for 25-1 chance Ennistown, with Jamie Spencer booked to ride second favourite Starchitect.
