TAWDEEA(best price 2/1) hasn’t been able to recapture the heady heights of his brilliant victory in the Old Newton Cup at Hayock back in the summer in his last few starts, but there were signs over today’s C&D last time out that given his proper conditions, he may be capable of scoring again before the season ends. Looking the most likely winner approaching the final furlong here 20 days ago, David O’Meara’s charge just couldn’t quite seal the deal as he just plugged on at the one pace inside the distance, but now with the cheekpieces on for the first time, those new aids might just turn out to be the galvanising effect he requires.

The combination of an easy success over today’s C&D and crack amateur pilot Simon Walker make REBEL LIGHTNING(NAP)(best price 3/1) a very potent force in this concluding handicap and he rates the best bet of the day to follow up. Although it was only a seller he claimed here 13 days ago, the way he travelled and quickened away from his field suggests Richard Spenser’s charge is clearly capable of a good deal better, and given that he gets the chance to race off his old mark, the three-year-old grey should prove extremely difficult to beat if in the same mood.
