After a couple of days of rain and no play, we're back with a French Open daily double.
The first leg of this double will be for Ramos Vinolas to cover the +7.5 games handicap against Wawrinka. Wawrinka leads the head to head 6-0 and 4-0 on clay. These two actually played each other two weeks ago in Geneva with Wawrinka winning 6-1 6-1.
I think this match will be a lot closer than that though. As we know the weather hasn't been great in Paris, with the courts being damp and the air cool. This will suit Ramos-Vinolas a lot more than Wawrinka as the balls won't fly through the air as quickly.
This means Wawrinka will have to work a lot harder to break his opponent down and I can see him getting frustrated. Ramos-Vinolas is mentally tougher than the players Stan has played so far and he will certainly make it difficult for him in his first slam quarter-final of his career.
The second part of this double will be the match between Gasquet and Murray to complete more than 3.5 sets. Murray leads the head to head 8-4 and this will be the thirteenth time they've played each other in their careers.
On the clay it's a lot closer though. Murray leads the head to head 2-1 but none of their matches have been won in straight sets, with Gasquet winning in three sets in Rome and Murray winning two best of five matches.
Having watched Gasquet against Nishikori, he looks mentally stronger than he has done in previous years. He could have easily collapsed after Nishikori won the fourth set. As this match is best of five sets I do see Murray's experience coming out on top but I think Gasquet will make him earn it.
