Kingston Town Classic Betting

The Kingston Town Classic is the last Australian Group One of the calendar year. The weight-for-age 1800 metre race was inaugurated in 1976 by the Western Australian Turf Club and has undergone a swag of name changes since. The Kingston Town Classic has varied in distance over time due to placement in the schedule and, on one particular occasion, a change in venue.

Worth $1,000,000, the KTC pays down to tenth (10th) place including $90,000 to third, $200,000 to second and $590,000 to the winner.

The last of the three WA Group Ones, the KTC is run on the last day of The Masters but is also commonly used as a preparation race by high class stayers heading towards the Ted van Heemst Stakes and the Perth Cup.

Family Of Man was the first and third winner of the race back in 1976 and 1978 for trainer George Hanlon. In between he won a Cox Plate.

Other dual winners include Summer Beau, Old Comrade, Niconero and Playing God.

The race has long been a happy hunting ground for three-year-olds with 17 of them winning the race between its first running and 2018. Recent star three-year-old fillies Perfect Reflection and Arcadia Queen are in rare company winning weight-for-age Group Ones before Christmas.

Other great winners of the race include Vo Rogue, Better Loosen Up and, of course, the horse which the race is named after, Kingston Town.

Jockey Paul Harvey and trainer David Hayes each have four wins of the race.
