Queensland Derby Betting

The Channel 7 Queensland Derby is a Group One event for three-year-olds and is held over 2400 metres at Eagle Farm in Brisbane.

It is run on the same day as the JJ Atkins and Stradbroke Handicap

Total prizemoney for the Queensland Derby is $600,000 with the winner to receive $360,000 while second will get $108,000 and third $54,000. Prizemoney is paid all the way down to tenth (10th) place.

The Queensland Derby always throws up an interesting field and usually takes a very good horse to win the race. Some of the names on the honour roll include legends of the turf such as Rough Habit (1990), Kingston Town (1980) and Tulloch (1957). Coincidentally, Dark Dream, Ruthven and Eagle Way (winners from 2016-18) all finished their Australian careers with victory in the race before being taken to Hong Kong.

Eagle Way gave trainer John Moore his first Queensland Derby while his legendary father George won three as a jockey (Forest Beau, Tulloch and Persian Lyric). Kerry Parker scored his first Group One success with Dark Dream in the 2018 edition before the horse was sold to overseas interests.

Riva San is the most recent horse to capture the Queensland Oaks/Derby double when she did it in 2008.
