What are they saying?
Hopoate to Gallen: “I’ll end his sporting career, he can sit in retirement with his coach”
Gallen vowing to end Hopoate’s sporting career. “You’re not going to handle what’s coming. I just want to remind you, Hoppa, and everyone else, that you chased this fight. You’re the one who called me a coward, you’re the one who said ‘sign the contract’ and that I’ll never fight again. Well I’ve signed it mate and I’ll be there. I promise you right now you’re not going to handle what’s coming.”
Hopoate on contacting promoter Matt Rose to request both fighters submit to pre-fight testing. A nod back to the Cronulla Sharks’ infamous 2011 supplements scandal. “You know Paul’s been in trouble for that before, so I’m just making sure that it’s an even field. I don’t know if he would [look for an illegal advantage], but I’m just being safe because I want an even field when we’re both out there.”
Gallen responding to be being called a drug cheat. “I do find it funny though, how you and other people probably couldn’t name anyone involved at Cronulla from all them years ago but you want to try and single me out for it. And quite frankly it’s because you couldn’t lace my boots on your best day. The difference between them and you though, is that I get to punch you in the face for it, and I’m really looking forward to that. I’m actually going to embarrass you. I’m actually at the point now where I’m thinking about just tapping your fat head around, round after round until you quit yourself or your corner throws the towel in.”
Gallen to Hopoate “this will be your last fight, you won’t fight again after this because I will knock you out champ.”
John Hopoate: “If I win this I want to fight the four guys who suspended me for 10 years at NSW Rugby League... I want all four of them to jump in [the ring] at one time and I’ll give them my verdict.”
John Hopoate in asking for upfront payment of his purse to fight Paul Gallen so he can lay a bet on himself. “I’m paying $5 so I want to bet on myself and make a quarter of a million dollars, because I am that confident."
