Every man and his dog wanted to be on Smart Melody to win the Thousand Guineas (1600 metres) three weeks ago.

After this morning's barrier draw, while that is still the case in some respects, punters are beginning to look elsewhere.

Smart Melody was sensationally backed in futures markets to win this race prior to her win in the Thousand Guineas Prelude, where she wasn't as impressive as most expected her to be.

Smart Melody has been popular today since drawing barrier two and trainer Kris Lees' decision to continue on the Thousand Guineas path, rather than head to the Coolmore (over 1200 metres), should give punters a bit of confidence.

Stablemate El Dorado Dreaming has had some speccing at each way odds. It was hard not to catch her fast-finishing third to Smart Melody in the Guineas Prelude a fortnight ago. She has come up with gate seven.

Amphitrite is the other one to have been specced despite her coming up with the widest gate - barrier 16.

She was impressive winning the Edward Manifold last week. Blessed with a great finishing burst, punters have been willing to jump in early to her price which is hovering around the $8* mark at present.
