Rugby World Cup: Bettors pump money on European Giants
Following an impressive win the betting public fancy a European upset in Japan
A few of the rugby big boys failed to produce the performances expected in the early game of the 2019 Rugby World Cup. However, Wales don’t sit in that category as they ran out convincing winners against the pretty average Georgians.
In the weeks leading up the World Cup, Wales found themselves in a peculiar position of being the number one ranked team in the world but the bookmakers not giving them much chance of lifting the trophy in Japan.
The win against Georgia didn’t shoot them up the list of favourites for the competition, but the impressive display did get a reaction from bettors. Since the start of the competition, Wales have received 16% of bets in the market. Which puts them second in the betting percentages behind New Zealand.
The Kiwi’s remain the short priced favourites after their crucial victory over South Africa. The Springbok’s find themselves in joint second favourite with the English as $6.
The Wallabies take on the Welsh in their next game and are $2.15 to win their second game. Wales are currently $1.8 to win that engagement.
