The betting activity is building ahead of the 91st Academy Awards in Los Angeles tonight.

There’s plenty of markets covering the awards in the Oddschecker Oscars section, but here’s a round-up of who is leading the running for some of the main honours.

Best Picture – Roma

It looks like those involved with Roma are in for another successful evening having picked up a host of accolades already, including the BAFTA for best film. The Netflix film is odds-on across the board at a best price of $1.75 to win. However, that price has drifted ever so slightly in places. Green Book is second favourite, clipped in from $3.75 to $3.50. Punters are favouring Roma too, with 28% of bets in the last week compared to 14% on Green Book.

Best Director – Alfonso Cuaron

Unsurprisingly, the favourite for this award ties in with the market leader in the Best Picture category. Roma director Alfonso Cuaron is about as ‘nailed on’ as they get, at a best price of $1.30. One bookie has gone as short as $1.25. Second in the market BlacKkKlansman director Spike Lee is way back at $17. This is a lot closer with punters, likely to have been put off by the short price. 27% have gone for Cuaron, while 22% fancy Lee to win.

Best Actor – Rami Malek

Star of Bohemian Rhapsody, Rami Malek is expected to add to his Golden Globe and BAFTA wins by winning the big prize tonight for his portrayal of Queen legend Freddie Mercury. The best price on offer is 2/11 and 40% of bets this week have gone his way. With 22% of bets, Christian Bale follows him in the market at 11/2 for his impressive transformation into Dick Cheney in Vice.

Best Actress – Glenn Close

The hot favourite for this award is Glenn Close at $1.14, tipped to win her first Oscar for her role in The Wife. She’s accrued 34% of bets on the market in the past week. Olivia Colman’s popularity in Britain doesn’t quite translate to the US, the BAFTA winner and star of The Favourite is $6 second favourite and accounts for 19% of bets.

Best Supporting Actor – Mahershala Ali

Starring alongside Viggo Mortensen in Green Book, Mahershala Ali is the bookies’ choice, and 38% of punters fancy him too. Also popular for his role in the current season of True Detective, he’s priced at $1.06 to win. Meanwhile, Richard E. Grant is a popular choice for his role alongside Melissa McCarthy in Can You Ever Forgive Me?, shortening from $11 to $8.50 in places and accruing 27% of bets this week.

Best Supporting Actress – Regina King

Bookies reckon Regina King has this one in the bag for If Beale Street Could Talk. Another category dominated by an odds-on favourite, King is priced at $1.33 with 38% of bets in the last week, putting her way ahead of second favourite Amy Adams. The Vice star is $6.50 best price and has attracted 10% of bets.
