Aaron Hernandez – The trials and tribulations of an on-field talent turned murderer
A recap of the events surrounding Aaron Hernandez’s suicide and the secrets it may have covered.
By now we’ve all heard of the tragic events that occurred to Aaron Hernandez the ex-NFL Tight End.
Hernandez was a stud as a player forming a lethal tandem with Rob Gronkowski, acting as Tom Brady’s primary weapons.
Hernandez was accused and convicted of first-degree murder for the shooting death of Odin Lloyd, a semi-pro football player. However, this wasn’t the only charge that Hernandez was associated with. Hernandez was involved in indictments and acquittals of other shootings and murders respectively.
Safe to say Hernandez may have been paraded as a top bloke donating $50,000 to charity in 2012 but behind the scenes this guy ran amok thinking he was above the law.
In August 2012 Hernandez signed a $41m contract with the Patriots making him the second highest paid Tight End ever. To think that even this type of financial security and opportunity couldn’t keep him on the straight and narrow makes you think that nothing would have.
On August 19 Aaron Hernandez was found hanging by a bed sheet in his cell at Souza Baranowski Correctional Center at approximately 3:30 am. His death has been ruled a suicide since.
There have been some curious facts to come out of this one. Firstly, there have been some theories bandied around in regards to Hernandez’s sexuality. Hernandez was supposedly involved in a secret relationship with a male friend during his time at Florida University. There wasn’t much in terms of proof; however, upon Hernandez’s suicide a search of his cell uncovered three suicide letters. One was to his fiancée, one to his daughter and one to his jail boyfriend. This has essentially added further fuel to the fire regarding Hernandez’s bisexual nature.
Newsweek in the U.S reported that Hernandez “moved a large amount of money into three accounts shortly before his arrest”. One account was for his Fiancée, the second for his daughter and the final account, which contained the most funds, was moved for his supposed friend/lover from his days at Florida U.
Hernandez’s suicide came a surprise for many. One other thought as to why stems from his contractual situation with the Patriots. The details of the contract’s outcome are still relatively unclear. What has been reported is that Hernandez’s death will guarantee a large portion if not his entire contract will still be eligible to be paid to his daughter.
One thing that is certain is that the Hernandez Saga will go down in infamy for future generations. We can already see a documentary being made in one of the all time sports-stars turned bad guy story we’ve heard.
